U.S. measles cases surpass 700 as officials battle to control outbreaks.

The U.S. surpassed 700 confirmed cases of measles in 2025, marking a troubling milestone, according to the CDC.

About 32% of cases are in children under 5, and 38% in those aged 5 to 19. So far, 79 people have been hospitalized—45 of them under age 5. Most infections (97%) involve unvaccinated individuals or those with unknown vaccination status.

Measles has been reported in over 24 states, with Texas hit hardest—logging more than 540 cases. Two unvaccinated children, including an 8-year-old girl, have died. Gaines County, the outbreak's epicenter, now accounts for 355 cases.

Just four months into 2025, the case count has already more than doubled last year's total of 285.
